Rediscover Harmony and Wholeness Among the Whispering Trees.

In today's whirlwind of technology and relentless pressure, we find ourselves yearning for a sanctuary—a place where our spirits can breathe freely, away from the chaos that defines our everyday existence. At Just Love Forest, nestled within the serene landscapes of Poetry, GA, we offer more than just a retreat; we offer a journey back to your essence, through the ancient practice of forest therapy.

Why Forest Therapy?

Not simply a walk in the woods.

Amidst the concrete jungles we inhabit, we've become strangers to the natural world, leading to an epidemic of stress, anxiety, and disconnection. This disconnection is not merely physical but deeply psychological, manifesting in a myriad of health issues that have become distressingly common. Yet, the forest holds an antidote to our modern ailments—a timeless cure that has nurtured humanity for millennia.

Forest therapy, or Shinrin-yoku, as it is known in Japan, is not simply a walk in the woods. It is an immersive experience that engages all your senses. Through touch, taste, hearing, vision, and intuition, forest therapy gently coaxes you into the present moment, allowing you to forge a profound connection with nature. This connection rekindles your relationship with the earth, offering profound benefits for your physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

Contributions

While there is a cost associated with maintaining our 716-acre nature preserve and supporting our ongoing projects, we invite you to contribute in a way that feels right for you. To continue building and protecting this sacred space, we suggest a Recommended Contribution of $100+. This amount helps us cover the actual costs of food, stewarding and upkeep in the forest and ensures we can keep offering these transformative experiences.

For those who are in a position to contribute more, a Sustainer Rate of $200+ that you'd normally pay for a full day retreat greatly assists enabling us to extend this opportunity to more individuals, paying it forward within our community.

Remember, everyone is welcome at Just Love Forest, regardless of the ability to pay. Your presence, energy, and intention contribute immensely to the magic of our gatherings. If you have questions, need more information, or wish to discuss alternative contributions, like volunteering to support events please feel free to reach out to bala@justloveforest.com.

The essence of Forest therapy

  • A Forest Therapy Guide, certified by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT), plays a pivotal role in facilitating a connection between participants and the forest environment. This is achieved through a series of carefully crafted "invitations" that encourage mindfulness, calm, and wellbeing. These invitations are designed to help participants slow down, open their senses, and cultivate a deep presence, allowing for a profound engagement with the natural world around them. The guide's role is to open doorways for participants to experience the therapeutic power of the forest, supporting a wide range of experiences that participants may find significant or even profound. The guides are trained to be supportive witnesses to these experiences, equipped with skills and perspectives essential for this role.

The training for becoming a Forest Therapy Guide with ANFT is comprehensive, covering a wide range of competencies. Participants learn the Standard Sequence of Guided Forest Therapy Walks, professional standards and competencies, the pedagogy and fundamentals of nature connection, and the effects of nature and forest therapy on healthcare and wellbeing. The program also emphasizes the development of a heart-centered Way of the Guide approach, the language of invitation to foster powerful self and nature connections, somatic techniques for embodied awareness, and facilitation skills that encourage group sharing. The training is designed to deeply integrate learning both intellectually and physically, ensuring that upon completion, guides can successfully lead forest therapy walks within ANFT's framework.

A typical forest therapy experience focuses on the journey rather than the destination, with guided walks often covering less than half a mile and lasting between one to three hours. The aim is to facilitate healing interactions through giving generous attention, becoming fully present, and engaging all eight sensory modes. Forest Bathing is viewed as a regular wellness practice that can be done monthly, weekly, or daily, where stress and schedules are set aside to rediscover breath, stillness, joy, wonder, and oneself. It is a practice that emphasizes creating relationships between humans and the more-than-human world, characterized by a sense of loving and tender connection, leading to an ethic of tenderness and reciprocity.

All guides at Just Love Forest are certified by ANFT, ensuring they are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and competencies to facilitate meaningful and healing forest therapy experiences.

  • Imagine stepping into the serene embrace of Just Love Forest, where a day of forest therapy unfolds like a gentle journey back to your inner peace and connection with nature. This is not just a walk in the woods; it's a guided voyage into the heart of the forest and, simultaneously, into the depths of your own being.

    Morning Arrival and Welcome Circle

Your experience begins with a warm welcome as you join a small group of fellow participants. Here, in a clearing surrounded by the whispering trees, your certified ANFT guide introduces the day's intentions. You're invited to leave behind the digital world, your worries, and your expectations. This opening circle is a time for connection, setting intentions, and grounding yourself in the present moment.

    Guided Immersion and Sensory Awakening

As the group embarks on a gentle walk, your guide offers a series of "invitations" – carefully designed prompts that encourage you to engage with the forest through all your senses. Perhaps you'll be invited to notice the intricate patterns of leaves, the play of light through the canopy, or the symphony of bird calls and rustling branches. Each invitation is an opportunity to slow down, breathe deeply, and fully immerse yourself in the moment.

    Reflective Practice and Sharing

After each invitation, there's time for reflection and, if you choose, sharing your experiences with the group. These moments of sharing are not about judgment or interpretation but about witnessing and being witnessed in your experience. It's in these exchanges that many find a deeper sense of connection—not just to nature, but to each other.

    Forest Tea Ceremony

Midway through the experience, the group gathers for a forest tea ceremony. Here, in a tranquil spot chosen for its beauty and calm, you'll enjoy tea made from local plants, connecting with the tradition of the land and tasting the forest in a new way. This is a moment of rest, contemplation, and connection with the essence of the forest.

    Closing Circle and Reflection

As the day draws to a close, the group forms a closing circle to reflect on the journey and share insights or revelations. This is a time to acknowledge the gifts of the forest and the shifts within. Your guide may offer thoughts on how to carry the peace and connection you've found back into your daily life.

    Personal Transformation

Participants leave Just Love Forest carrying with them not just memories but a renewed sense of peace, well-being, and connectedness. The experience of forest therapy is deeply personal and varies widely among individuals, but many report feeling more grounded, alive, and attuned to the natural world. The rest of your day, even after leaving the forest, is often seen through a lens of increased mindfulness and presence.

A day at Just Love Forest is an invitation to slow down, to reconnect with the natural world and yourself, and to remember the simple joy of being alive. Here, amid the quiet majesty of the forest, you find not just therapy but a profound homecoming.

  • Diving into the heart of the forest not only reconnects you with nature but unleashes a cascade of health benefits, thanks to the magic of phytoncides. These are not your average forest scents; they're a powerful blend of tree-emitted essential oils that pack a punch for your health. Picture this: as you meander through the woods, you're actually bathing in an invisible mist of these natural compounds, engaging in a practice known as forest bathing or shinrin-yoku.

Phytoncides, such as α-pinene, d-limonene, and β-pinene, are nature's own defense mechanism, protecting trees from germs and insects. For humans, these compounds are like a natural health spa, enhancing our immune response, reducing inflammation, and even lowering our stress levels. Imagine your body's natural killer (NK) cells getting a boost, becoming more adept at seeking out and destroying harmful cells, all from a leisurely stroll in the woods.

But wait, there's more! These forest-derived essential oils have been shown to have a myriad of benefits. They can significantly increase NK cell activity for days after just a 2-hour walk in the forest, temper inflammation, reduce oxidative stress, and even improve your mood and sleep quality. It's like nature's own prescription for well-being, without the side effects. The science backs it up, showing that regular visits to the forest can help fend off a range of lifestyle-induced illnesses, from cardiovascular diseases to neuropsychiatric conditions.

Phytoncides are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the benefits of forest bathing. The practice also incorporates mindfulness, encouraging you to unplug from technology and immerse yourself fully in the natural world. The mindful approach to forest bathing—taking time to observe the patterns of leaves, the colors around you, and listening to the natural soundscape—can help quiet the chatter in your mind and bring a profound sense of peace.

So, next time you're feeling the weight of the world, remember that a simple solution awaits in the forest. Breathing in the phytoncide-rich air not only boosts your physical health but also provides a mental reset, offering a tranquil escape from the buzz of modern life. Whether you're surrounded by the towering pines or just spending time in your local park, the essence of the forest can bring a slice of tranquility and health benefits into your life.

  • In our world, where the threads of humanity and nature are intricately woven, forest therapy emerges as a poignant reminder of our forgotten harmony with the earth. It's a practice that not only heals the human spirit but also rekindles our relationship with the environment, fostering a profound respect and love for nature that is essential in the fight against climate change.

Imagine if every soul remembered the melody of the wind whispering through the trees, the symphony of leaves rustling underfoot, and the chorus of birdsong at dawn. Forest therapy does more than just soothe the mind; it awakens an innate connection to the natural world, a realization that we are not separate from nature but a part of it. This awakening is crucial for climate action. As we fall back in love with the natural world, we begin to see the earth as part of ourselves, not merely as a resource to be exploited but as a sacred home to be cherished and protected.

The significance of forest therapy in mitigating climate change lies in this transformative realization. By fostering a deep, emotional connection with nature, forest therapy encourages more sustainable lifestyles, advocates for conservation efforts, and inspires individuals to take action in protecting our planet. It's about seeing the forest for the trees—understanding the vital role forests play in regulating our climate, providing oxygen, and serving as habitats for countless species. When we walk among the giants, breathe in the phytoncides, and immerse ourselves in the beauty and tranquility of the forest, we are reminded of the intricate web of life and our place within it.

This reconnection has a ripple effect. It influences how we live, work, and interact with the environment. From reducing our carbon footprint to supporting reforestation projects and advocating for policies that protect natural spaces, the love and appreciation cultivated through forest therapy translate into tangible actions that combat climate change.

We stand at a crossroads, where the path to a sustainable future requires a collective shift in consciousness—a return to the wisdom of our ancestors who understood the sacred bond between humans and the earth. Forest therapy is not just a balm for the soul; it's a call to action. It reminds us that in healing ourselves, we begin to heal the planet. It's all connected. We just have to remember.

As we move forward, let us carry the lessons learned from the forest into our daily lives, letting them guide our choices and actions. By doing so, we not only contribute to the healing of the earth but also rediscover the joy and fulfillment that comes from living in harmony with the natural world. The importance of forest therapy extends beyond the individual, offering a beacon of hope and a blueprint for a future where humans live as stewards of the earth, safeguarding it for generations to come.
